Usage & Safety

For Adult

• For healing erosive esophagitis: 60 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks, as directed by a physician.
• For maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis: usually 30 mg once daily for up to 6 months; the 60 mg strength should be used only when specifically prescribed.
• For symptomatic non-erosive GERD: usually 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
• Swallow the capsule whole; do not crush or chew the capsule contents. It may be taken with or without food.
• If swallowing is difficult, the capsule may be opened and the contents sprinkled on a tablespoon of applesauce and swallowed without chewing, only as directed.

For Children

• Use in adolescents aged 12 years and older only under medical supervision.
• For adolescents with erosive esophagitis, 60 mg once daily may be prescribed for up to 8 weeks.
• For symptomatic non-erosive GERD in adolescents, 30 mg once daily may be prescribed for 4 weeks.
• Safety and effectiveness have not been established for children younger than 12 years; no weight-based dosing recommendation is provided.

Side Effects

• Common effects may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, headache, and upper respiratory tract infection.
• Less common effects may include constipation, indigestion, dizziness, rash, or sleep disturbance.
• Seek urgent medical help for facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, severe skin reactions, severe or persistent watery diarrhea, seizures, irregular heartbeat, severe muscle spasms, or signs of vitamin or mineral deficiency.
• Prolonged therapy may increase the risk of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency, and osteoporosis-related fractures.

Contraindications

• Known allergy or hypersensitivity to dexlansoprazole, other proton-pump inhibitors, or any product ingredient.
• Do not use with rilpivirine-containing products.
• Avoid use in severe hepatic impairment unless specifically directed by a specialist.
