Usage & Safety

For Adult

• For symptomatic non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease or maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis: 30 mg once daily as directed by a physician.
• For healing erosive esophagitis, the usual adult dose is 60 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks; this strength may require a different product or prescription.
• Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush or chew the contents.
• It may generally be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

For Children

• Use in adolescents aged 12 years and older should be directed by a physician.
• For adolescents, 30 mg once daily may be used for symptomatic non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease or maintenance therapy when prescribed.
• Safety and effectiveness in children younger than 12 years have not been established.
• No weight-based dosing recommendation is established for this product.

Side Effects

• Common effects may include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence, and upper-respiratory symptoms.
• Serious allergic reactions may cause rash, facial or throat swelling, wheezing, or breathing difficulty and require urgent medical attention.
• Seek medical care for severe or persistent diarrhea, severe skin reactions, seizures, muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat, reduced urination, or symptoms of kidney inflammation.

Contraindications

• Do not use in patients with allergy or serious hypersensitivity to dexlansoprazole, other proton-pump inhibitors, substituted benzimidazoles, or any capsule ingredient.
• Do not use with rilpivirine-containing medicines.
• Seek medical evaluation for unexplained weight loss, difficulty or pain when swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, persistent vomiting, anemia, or chest pain before starting treatment.
• Long-term or high-dose use should be medically supervised because it may increase risks such as vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, bone fractures, intestinal infections, and fundic-gland polyps.
• Use cautiously in severe liver impairment and under medical supervision.

Precautions & Warnings

• Do not combine with rilpivirine-containing products.
• May reduce absorption of medicines requiring an acidic stomach environment, including some azole antifungals and certain HIV medicines.
• Use caution with warfarin, digoxin, tacrolimus, clopidogrel, high-dose methotrexate, and medicines affected by changes in gastric acidity.
• Concomitant use with strong CYP2C19 inhibitors or inducers may alter dexlansoprazole exposure.
• Food does not generally prevent use, but take consistently according to the prescribing instructions.
