- May be used for selected cases of angina or heart failure only under specialist supervision
Usage & Safety
For Adult
- Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food.
- The usual starting dose for hypertension is commonly 5 mg once daily, but lower doses may be used in older adults or patients with liver or kidney impairment.
- Your doctor may adjust the dose based on blood pressure, heart rate, response, and tolerability.
- Do not stop treatment suddenly, as abrupt withdrawal may worsen angina or other heart problems.
For Children
- Safety and effectiveness in children have not been adequately established.
- Do not give to children or adolescents unless specifically prescribed by a qualified physician.
- No general pediatric weight-based dose is recommended for this product.
Side Effects
- Common effects may include headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, diarrhea, and slow heart rate.
- Cold hands or feet, low blood pressure, sleep disturbance, or shortness of breath may occur.
- Seek urgent medical help for fainting, severe breathing difficulty, swelling, very slow heartbeat, chest pain, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
- Nebivolol may mask warning symptoms of low blood sugar in people using diabetes medicines.
Contraindications
- Allergy to nebivolol or any tablet ingredient
- Severe slow heart rate, clinically significant low blood pressure, or cardiogenic shock
- Second- or third-degree heart block, sick sinus syndrome, or sinoatrial block without a functioning pacemaker
- Acute or decompensated heart failure requiring intravenous treatment
- Severe liver impairment
- Severe peripheral circulation problems
- History of bronchospasm or uncontrolled asthma requires medical assessment before use
- Use cautiously in diabetes, thyroid disease, kidney disease, peripheral vascular disease, and breathing disorders
Precautions & Warnings
- Other medicines that slow the heart or lower blood pressure may increase the risk of bradycardia or hypotension.
- Use with verapamil, diltiazem, amiodarone, digoxin, or other antiarrhythmic medicines requires medical supervision.
- Clonidine and other centrally acting blood-pressure medicines may interact; do not stop either medicine abruptly without medical advice.
- Some antidepressants and other medicines that inhibit CYP2D6 may increase nebivolol effects.
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen may reduce the blood-pressure-lowering effect.
- Diabetes medicines may have stronger effects, while symptoms of low blood sugar may be less noticeable.
- Limit alcohol because it may increase dizziness or low blood pressure.
Pregnancy
- Use during pregnancy only when clearly prescribed after the expected benefits and potential risks have been assessed by a doctor.
- Beta-blockers may affect fetal growth or the newborn's heart rate and blood sugar when used near delivery.
- Nebivolol may pass into breast milk; consult a doctor before breastfeeding while using this medicine.
