- Beta-blockers may mask warning symptoms of low blood sugar, especially a fast heartbeat, in people with diabetes.
Contraindications
- Allergy to nebivolol or any tablet ingredient
- Severe liver impairment
- Acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, or worsening heart failure requiring intravenous inotropic treatment
- Very slow heart rate, sick sinus syndrome, or sinoatrial block
- Second- or third-degree heart block without a functioning pacemaker
- Severe low blood pressure
- Metabolic acidosis
- Untreated pheochromocytoma
- History of bronchospasm or bronchial asthma, unless specifically assessed and monitored by a physician
- Severe peripheral circulation problems
- Use cautiously in diabetes, thyroid disease, peripheral vascular disease, kidney disease, liver disease, or compensated heart failure.
Precautions & Warnings
- Verapamil, diltiazem, disopyramide, amiodarone, other antiarrhythmics, digoxin, and other beta-blockers may excessively slow the heart or reduce blood pressure.
- Clonidine, reserpine, guanethidine, and similar medicines may increase the risk of low blood pressure or slow heart rate.
- CYP2D6 inhibitors such as quinidine, propafenone, fluoxetine, and paroxetine may increase nebivolol effects.
- Other antihypertensives, nitrates, and medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil may increase dizziness or low blood pressure.
- Insulin and other antidiabetic medicines may have their warning signs of hypoglycemia masked.
- Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, supplements, and herbal medicines before use.
