Contraindications

- Contraindicated in diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic pre-coma, or type 1 diabetes mellitus.
- Do not use in severe kidney impairment or acute kidney injury.
- Avoid in severe liver impairment, severe dehydration, serious infection, shock, or conditions associated with tissue hypoxia.
- Use caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis, recurrent genital or urinary infections, low blood pressure, or heart failure.
- Metformin should generally be withheld around iodinated contrast procedures and during major surgery according to medical advice.
Precautions & Warnings
- Insulin and sulfonylureas may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
- Diuretics and other medicines that lower blood pressure may increase dehydration or low blood pressure risk.
- Alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis and abnormal blood glucose levels.
- Medicines that induce P-glycoprotein or CYP3A4, such as rifampicin, may reduce linagliptin exposure and glucose-lowering effectiveness.
